Getting Rid of Cabbage Worms. My Least Favorite Thing!
When you pass by someone's lovely front yard garden, you don't really know what went into getting it to look that way. When you eat a gorgeous ripe peach, you can't know the hard work it took to produce it.
I'm pretty certain that this is the way its going to be with my fall veg garden. If I am able to be successful and produce a few broccoli and cauliflower, no one will know except me how many cabbage worms I squished.
But you know, if it was easy, it wouldn't be half as satisfying. If you keep your eye on the goal, and are willing to do the hard work, chances for success increase significantly. But with gardens, you can never be 100% sure. So I will persist, as I always do.
A reader sent me this fabulous quote today. She could not have known, nor did I, that today would be the day that I would be fighting the dreaded cabbage bugs! So this May Sarton quote is particularly appropriate right now.
"Everything that slows us down and forces patience. Everything that sets us back into the slow cycles of nature, is a help. Gardening is an instrument of grace."
Today, I'm taking a deep breath, and enjoying the grace.
