Our 40th Wedding Anniversary!

I remember so clearly the joy of our wedding. (Pictures in the next post!) It doesn't seem like it's been 40 years!

It was a hot August Saturday just two weeks after Prince Charles and Princess Diana's extravaganza. There was wedding fever in the air -- and everyone was excited to attend our wedding and get in on the act. And from my perspective, we did not disappoint.

We had a lovely Mass at St. Patrick's where we met in first grade, and we had our reception at Sportsman's Lodge, an event space here in the Valley, currently being refurbished.

I give my mom a lot of credit. My dad had just died the year before, and she was all on her own planning, and financing the wedding of her only daughter. She did a fabulous job. And we are still grateful for her generosity.

Our wedding registry was at May Company, where I had my first job, now no longer in business - but a Valley staple at Laurel Plaza in North Hollywood. We had no idea what we were doing - but I am sure that we were very opinionated about every thing we chose. I still have many of the beautiful things that our guests purchased for us - and I cherish each one. An ice bucket, 2 sets of china, Pyrex bowls, and crystal platters to name just a few...

But the most extraordinary thing about our wedding was that it was the beginning of such a beautiful life. Of all the things that I have accomplished in my life, one of the things that I am most proud of is the 40 years of marriage to Robert. It has been an ordinary life, a steady day to day journey, working through the highs and the lows. Together, we have built a life ... happy and full, but not possible without each other.
